What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice rooted in the idea that life force energy flows through all living beings. The Japanese word Reiki means universal Life force energy. The energy is known as 'Ki' in Japan, 'Chi' in China, and 'Prana' in India. Reiki is a complementary therapy where a practitioner acts as a channel for Reiki energy, allowing it to move through their hands and into the recipient, helping the body’s natural healing systems reset and realign. Reiki isn't part of any type of religion or belief system.

How does it work?

During an in-person Reiki session, the practitioner lightly places their hands just above or on specific areas of the body. Distance sessions

Clients can feel a variety of sensations, most commonly reporting:

  • Warming sensations

  • Gentle tingling or pulsing

  • Emotional release or tears

  • A deep sense of calm or clarity

Reiki is thought to activate the parasympathetic nervous system, our "rest and digest" mode. This allows the body to exit fight-or-flight and access deeper repair states.

Reiki helps to create the conditions for your body and nervous system to settle, release, remember, and begin to heal. Most people leave a session feeling deeply relaxed, clearer, and lighter.

Reiki is practiced worldwide, including in hospitals, addiction treatment centers, and hospice care, where it supports and complements conventional health treatments and therapies.

Reiki is considered an alternative, complementary approach and does not replace the need for traditional medical care through your physician, veterinarian, or licensed professional. You should not stop, add, or change any medication or traditional treatment without the advice, consent, and direction of your physician or veterinarian.

What to Expect

Here’s a glimpse of what to expect during a Reiki session to help you feel prepared and at ease.

In-Person Reiki Sessions:

These will either take place in my home Reiki room in Quinton or at your home. No matter the setting, Reiki invites you into a realm of deep relaxation and healing. You will lie fully clothed on a massage table or in a chair, whichever way you are comfortable. It’s a gentle and nurturing practice that offers a respite from the busyness of life, allowing you to reconnect with your inner calm and balance.

We will talk about your goals for the session, and I’ll answer any questions you may have.

During the session, you may feel a warm, tingling sensation or a sense of deep relaxation and peace. Some people experience a gentle flow of energy, while others may feel light and serene. Reiki rebalances you on all levels, so different emotions and feelings may come to your awareness during a session. It's a unique experience for each person, and you are encouraged to allow whatever comes up, it wants to be acknowledged.

At the end of the session, we will chat again, sharing any observations or insights that may have come up.

During sessions, I often include candles, essential oils, smudging tools, and crystals.

Distance Reiki Sessions:

How we have the session will be up to you! We can connect over video call, a phone call, or simply by synchronizing times. It isn’t required, but it is helpful for you to send me a picture of yourself to help in my channeling of Reiki to you. You’ll choose a quiet, comfortable space in your home where you can relax without interruptions.

As with in-person sessions, you might feel a gentle warmth, a sense of calm, or subtle shifts in your energy. Some people feel sensations similar to a light touch or warmth even though the practitioner is not physically there. It’s a deeply personal experience, and you are encouraged to relax and remain open to whatever you experience.

Following the session, we will have a chance to talk about your experience and anything that may have come up.

Regardless of where and how the Reiki session is conducted, the goal is for you to feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

After a session, it is important to drink plenty of water and remember to allow yourself to feel whatever comes up. It’s also a great idea to jot down any feelings or observations you’re having afterward.

First time? I'll walk you through everything before we start. There's nothing you need to do except show up and allow yourself to receive.
